G’day Friends Communities
Building communities that welcome the world
A G’day Friends Community is a region that actively welcomes international visitors, with a particular focus on Chinese-speaking visitors, and demonstrates that welcome through practical action.
It brings together local government, businesses and the wider community to make the region easier to discover, navigate and enjoy both in person and online.
The Chinese Customer Community Program provides a practical framework to help regions build local capability, support businesses and create a more welcoming experience for Chinese visitors.

What makes a G’day Friends Community different?
BREAK DOWN BARRIERS
Make it easier for Chinese-speaking visitors to understand, navigate and engage with the region through appropriate language, information and cultural awareness.
BE EASY TO DISCOVER
Help visitors discover the region, its businesses and experiences through the digital channels, signage and recommendations they trust and use.
SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESSES
Give local businesses access to practical tools, training and resources to better understand and engage with Chinese customers.
STRENGTHEN THE COMMUNITY
Build local capability and create opportunities for businesses, residents and visitors to benefit from a more connected, welcoming and economically active region.
A shared effort
Creating a welcoming destination isn’t the responsibility of one organisation or one business.
It works best when local government, businesses and the community work together — sharing knowledge, building capability and creating a consistent experience for visitors.
From the information a visitor finds online, to the welcome they receive when they arrive, every interaction can help shape how they experience a region.
The G’day Friends Community approach helps bring these efforts together.

Colac: Victoria’s First G’day Friends Community
Colac was the first community to be officially recognised as a G’day Friends Community.
Colac Otway Shire and the Colac Chamber of Commerce worked with local businesses and the community to build awareness and capability around welcoming Chinese visitors.
The initiative brought local organisations together to better understand the opportunities presented by Chinese visitors and take practical steps to make the region more welcoming and accessible.
